What is a Parish Plan? A Parish Plan is a statement of how local people want to see their village grow and develop over the coming years. It is created by the residents themselves, and can cover a wide range of issues including; social, environmental and economic. After consultation with residents an action plan of how the changes are to be made will be formed.
How will the plan be achieved?
Between 2000 and 2002, Mendlesham developed a community action plan based on an extensive house-to-house survey. The Parish Council proposed that this plan should be reviewed and updated. A community meeting on 13th March 2008 endorsed this idea. People interested in being part of a steering group were nominated. The steering group will be responsible for all aspects of developing the parish plan. The Steering Group will provide updates to the Parish Council but will be free to make its own decisions about all aspects of the plan, including who to consult and how, and what should be included and prioritised within the plan.
The steering group will consult in a number of different ways including:
- Consulting through established village organisations
- Consulting through existing opportunities, e.g. Open Day, Street Fayre, Parish meeting
- Targeted consultation with particular groups, e.g. young people
The steering group reviewed the possible merits of conducting a further household survey but has decided not to include this as part of the consultation process.
